In June our tiny Painted Lady caterpillars arrived.
Here’s a look at their journey from caterpillar, to cocoon and finally a wonderful butterfly!
The caterpillars arrived in the post and are growing fast and eating lots of food!
As they grow the caterpillars shed their skins – you can see the little black bits of skin in the pot.
The caterpillars have almost finished eating all their food and some have already headed up to the lid to form cocoons.
All the caterpillars are now in cocoons in one pot, but only one has cocooned in the other pot.
It’s now time to move the cocoons into the butterfly net ready for hatching.
The butterflies are hatching one by one! The children are very excited to see them and set them free!
